EA and Battlefield Studios have laid out the entire Season 4 roadmap for Battlefield 6, and the biggest surprise is a crossover nobody had officially confirmed until now: Top Gun. The update lands in three separate phases between July 21 and September 15, and it covers a lot of ground, naval combat, a new map, fresh weapons and vehicles, and a partnership built around Top Gun: Maverick, cast members included.

Battlefield Studios gave fans a first look at the season through its Naval Warfare gameplay trailer earlier this week. Today's announcement fills in the rest, the complete roadmap, the studio's first entertainment collaboration, and everything arriving between now and mid-September. Worth noting: that July 14 trailer actually hid a small Top Gun reference near the end. It reads a lot differently now that the partnership is official.

Phase 1: Pacific Front Launches July 21

Season 4 opens with Pacific Front, and its centerpiece is Tsuru Reef, described as the largest map Battlefield 6 has had so far. It's a sprawling Pacific setting with open airspace, aircraft carriers with working flight decks, and a new Dynamic Wave System.

The waves aren't just there to look good. They push boats around, throw off aim, change what you can and can't see, and open up new angles for ambushes, flanks, and cover during firefights. It's a small addition on paper that changes how naval fights actually play out.

Pacific Front also adds a batch of new gear:

  • New map: Tsuru Reef
  • New boats: 7.7M NSW RHIB, RCB-90
  • New weapons: EF88 Assault Rifle, BROD 3 Carbine, VSSM DMR
  • REDSEC: Ranked season updates

Top Gun Collaboration Arrives August 18

Phase two is where things get unusual for the series. Battlefield is teaming up with Paramount's Top Gun franchise, its first entertainment crossover of any kind, and bringing three characters from Top Gun: Maverick into the game with their original actors reprising the voice work.

  • Lt. Bradley "Rooster" Bradshaw (Miles Teller)
  • Lt. Robert "Bob" Floyd (Lewis Pullman)
  • Adm. Solomon "Warlock" Bates (Charles Parnell)

Top Gun-themed cosmetics and character skins come along with the crossover. Miles Teller called it a rare kind of meeting point, saying, "It's a huge honor to appear in a long-running franchise like Battlefield with its millions of fans, and talented people working on it. And with Top Gun, it's like two titans meeting." Charles Parnell seemed just as pleased about voicing an admiral who barks orders at players, adding, "I'll actually be the one giving orders in-game, which I love. If it's my voice that pushes players on to clutch a win, that's awesome." Lewis Pullman echoed the sentiment too, saying Battlefield's mix of land, sea, and air combat makes it a fitting match for Top Gun.

New Top Gun Game Modes

Two new modes come with the collaboration, both built around the films.

Carrier Strike puts naval, air, and ground forces into the same fight at once, with each team trying to sink the other's aircraft carrier. It's meant to combine Battlefield's usual scale with the kind of aerial spectacle Top Gun is known for.

Fighter Sweep is exclusive to Battlefield REDSEC, a jets-only Gauntlet mission set on a reworked Tsuru Reef where pilots fight it out to see who's actually "the best of the best." Executive Producer Ryan McArthur summed up the tie-in this way: "Jets. Adrenaline. The drive to be the best. Battlefield's unmatched sense of scale is the perfect way to bring Top Gun's iconic and cinematic aerial combat to life."

Wake Island Returns

Alongside the Top Gun content, one of Battlefield's most recognizable maps is making a comeback. Wake Island returns as a reworked multiplayer map when the August 18 update goes live, rebuilt with current visuals and gameplay systems for players who remember the original.

New Aircraft, Vehicles, and Weapons

Season 4 adds a fair amount to Battlefield 6's arsenal on top of everything else:

  • New aircraft: F/A-18F Super Spectre and F-74A Seacat, both two-seaters
  • Top Gun aircraft: F/A-18 Super Hornet and F-14 Tomcat
  • New weapon: Interdictor
  • New point of interest: Aircraft Carrier
  • Battlefield Labs: Spectator Mode Custom Lobbies

Tidal Strike Arrives September 15

The season closes out with Tidal Strike, headlined by the Deep Six Collection Event, which rewards players for finishing naval-themed contracts and challenges. A few other additions round out the phase:

  • Diver's Knife melee weapon
  • Phantom Program discoverable secrets
  • Proximity Chat

Quality of Life Improvements

Beyond the new maps and the crossover, Season 4 also delivers a couple of features players have been asking for since launch. Spectator Mode and Portal Custom Lobbies are both confirmed for the season, giving creators and communities better tools for tournaments and custom matches.

General Manager Byron Beede framed the season as the result of steady community feedback since launch, pointing to naval warfare, the Top Gun partnership, the game's largest map yet, and the new features as evidence that Season 4 is the biggest update Battlefield 6 has gotten so far.

Final Thoughts

Three phases, a returning classic map, and an entertainment crossover the studio kept quiet until now, that's a lot to pack into one season. Naval combat finally gets a real spotlight with Tsuru Reef and the wave system, and pairing it with Top Gun's jets and cast gives the whole thing a different flavor than a standard content drop. Whether the Top Gun tie-in lands with players the way the naval mechanics might is the part worth watching once Pacific Front actually goes live on July 21.
