Bethesda Game Studios posted an update on its official X account confirming that remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are both in development, alongside progress updates on The Elder Scrolls VI, Fallout 5, and Starfield.

The post also touched on plans to expand Bethesda's live-service games, put more resources into creator tools, and get its various studios working more closely together as its next generation of RPGs takes shape.

Fallout 3 and New Vegas Remasters Confirmed

The headline news is confirmation that both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas are being remastered. Bethesda didn't share release dates, but it acknowledged the years of requests to bring back the earlier games.

"We also know many players want to revisit previous Fallout experiences," the studio said. "While we're not announcing any dates today, we have been working on remasters for both Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas."

This is Bethesda's first official confirmation that both remasters are actively in the works.

Fallout 5 Still Early, Elder Scrolls VI Remains the Priority

Bethesda reiterated that Fallout 5 remains one of its long-term priorities, though the game is still in preproduction while The Elder Scrolls VI stays Bethesda Game Studios' main focus. The studio also said several other Fallout projects are already in active development, so fans could see more than just the next mainline entry over the coming years.

The Elder Scrolls VI Gets a Brief Update

Bethesda confirmed that most of its development team is now working on The Elder Scrolls VI, and said things are progressing on schedule.

"The next chapter is on the way," the studio wrote. "We're where we planned to be, loving how it looks, and playing it every day."

No gameplay or release window was shared, but the update at least reassures fans that development is moving forward.

Starfield's Next Round of Updates

Bethesda also reaffirmed its commitment to Starfield, which has now passed 17 million players who have logged nearly a billion hours combined. As the game heads into its third year, Bethesda says players can expect:

  • New story content
  • Gameplay improvements
  • Additional updates
  • New Starborn content, launching next year

Bethesda also pointed to the Creations platform's success, noting that more than 40% of Starfield players use it to customize their game.

Bethesda and Obsidian Working Together Again

Bethesda confirmed it's collaborating with Obsidian Entertainment on a new Fallout project, though no other details were shared. Given Obsidian's history with Fallout: New Vegas, the announcement has already got fans speculating about what it could be.

Fallout 76, Shelter, and the TV Series Keep Growing

Bethesda shared updates across the rest of the Fallout franchise as well. Fallout 76 is getting a major expansion next year called Raven Rock, described as a prequel story to Fallout 3. Fallout 4 has now sold more than 35 million copies, while Fallout Shelter has topped 250 million players.

The studio also confirmed:

  • New Seasons are coming to Fallout Shelter
  • An unscripted Fallout Shelter television project is in development with Amazon Studios and Kilter Films
  • Fallout Season 2 has earned 10 Emmy nominations
  • Fallout Season 3 is already in production
  • Fallout's 30th anniversary in 2027 will be marked with a live Fallout Day event in Washington, D.C.

Creation Engine 3 Powers What's Next

Looking further ahead, Bethesda confirmed that both The Elder Scrolls VI and Fallout 5 are being built on Creation Engine 3. The studio says the new engine lets multiple teams work on different projects at the same time, while bringing improved rendering, tools, and gameplay systems tailored to its open-world RPGs.

What's Next

Bethesda didn't share release dates for The Elder Scrolls VI, Fallout 5, or the newly confirmed remasters, but the update covers all three of its biggest franchises, The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Starfield, alongside continued investment in live-service support, creator tools, and technology across its studios.
