CDL Champs 2026 Recap: FaZe Vegas Reach Grand Final as OpTic Texas Survive Championship Sunday

Championship Sunday at CDL Champs 2026 packed in almost everything a season finale could offer: a wild comeback, a team clawing back from the brink of elimination, and a Grand Final matchup nobody could call ahead of time. Three series played out across the day, each one carrying real weight, and by the end only two teams were left standing.

FaZe Vegas locked up their spot in the Grand Final through the winners bracket. OpTic Texas lost that opening series in brutal fashion, then turned around and won two more just to keep their title hopes alive. Riyadh Falcons, the tournament's biggest surprise package, saw their run end one match short of the final.

Here's how Championship Sunday played out.

FaZe Vegas Survive an Instant Classic to Reach the CDL Champs 2026 Grand Final

The first match of the day set a bar the rest of Championship Sunday would struggle to clear.

FaZe Vegas and OpTic Texas played five maps for a direct berth in the Grand Final, and the series swung hard in both directions before FaZe closed it out 3-2. The win did more than send them to the final. It also gave them extra rest while OpTic had to play their way back through elimination later that day.

FaZe Pull Off a Wild Hardpoint Comeback

If one moment defined the day, it happened in the opening Hardpoint.

For most of the map, OpTic looked fully in control. Huke and Shotzzy kept breaking hills, Mercules found kills all over the map, and Dashy's objective play helped OpTic build a real cushion. The score climbed from 205-151 to 234-192 to 245-212, and at that point OpTic needed just five more points to close it out.

Then FaZe took over. They won the final rotation and refused to give it back, reeling off the last 38 points of the map without OpTic scoring again. The score went from 212-245 to 250-245 in what felt like no time at all, and the arena needed a second to process what had just happened.

Simp led the way for FaZe with 48 kills, 17 assists, 15 objective kills, and a seven-kill streak. 04 was right behind him at 38/36 with 16 objective kills, and Abuzah and Drazah both finished above 35 eliminations. On OpTic's side, Mercules put up a lobby-high 45 kills and 5,759 damage, while Huke and Shotzzy combined for 70 eliminations between them. None of it mattered once the score flipped.

Instead of taking a 1-0 lead, OpTic suddenly had to chase the series.

OpTic Answer Back in Search & Destroy

OpTic did not fold after that. The second map, Search & Destroy on Den, stayed tight the whole way, with neither team pulling ahead by much.

Dashy was the difference. He finished 14/7 with the highest damage in the lobby and kept getting opening picks that let OpTic set the pace. Mercules had another strong map, and Huke and Shotzzy chipped in on rounds even with quieter numbers.

FaZe stayed in it thanks to 04, who picked up five first bloods, plus steady rounds from Simp and Drazah. OpTic edged the closing rounds to win 6-5, tying the series back up.

OpTic Take Overload to Push Ahead

With their confidence back, OpTic looked like the better team heading into Overload.

Mercules had maybe his best individual map of the weekend, going 32/18 with four successful Overloads and the top score in the lobby. Shotzzy racked up 29 kills, and Huke added 27 with six carrier kills.

FaZe struggled to keep pace around the objective. Alluka and Cellium were not part of this series, but Drazah and Simp still put up decent numbers. It was not enough. OpTic kept winning the fights that mattered and converted almost every push, taking the map 4-2.

After the gut punch of Map 1, OpTic had answered with back-to-back wins and stood one map from the Grand Final themselves.

FaZe Respond Under Elimination Pressure

Good teams show what they are made of when they are staring at elimination, and FaZe did exactly that.

Map 4 went back to Hardpoint, this time on Den, and FaZe took control from the start. There was none of the back-and-forth from Map 1. OpTic never got long stretches of hill time.

04 had a monster map, going 44 kills against only 21 deaths. Drazah added 27 kills, Simp had 29, and FaZe steadily built their lead before closing it out 250-164.

Everything now came down to a fifth map.

FaZe Close It Out

Search & Destroy on Hacienda decided who reached the Grand Final, and this time FaZe played their cleanest map of the series.

Simp went 8/6, Drazah added a 6/3 with a bomb defuse and several key opening picks, and Abuzah and 04 both got timely multi-kills. OpTic never found their footing, and FaZe closed it out 6-2 for a 3-2 series win, the first ticket punched to the Grand Final.

For OpTic, losing after coming so close to winning the opener stung. But their tournament was not over. They still had a shot through the elimination bracket, starting with Riyadh Falcons later that day.

FaZe, meanwhile, finally got to exhale. They had survived arguably the toughest series of the weekend, and they had already beaten the team most likely to be waiting for them again.

Riyadh Falcons End Paris Gentle Mates' Championship Run

After surviving one elimination match earlier in the weekend, Riyadh Falcons knew one more win would put them within a single series of the Grand Final. Paris Gentle Mates, the Major 1 champions, stood in the way.

What followed was another five-map battle. Riyadh looked ready to cruise after taking the first two maps, but Paris clawed back to force a decider, and Riyadh needed one more composed performance to close it out.

Falcons Take the Opening Hardpoint

Riyadh wasted no time. On Den, they outslayed Paris and won nearly every important fight around the objective, denying Paris any real scoring runs.

Kismet was outstanding, finishing 30 kills against 20 deaths with 12 objective kills and 3.33 kills per hill. Alluka added a 27/20 game, and Cellium quietly ran a clean 20/16. JoeDeceives fought hard for Paris with 28 kills, but little else worked, and Riyadh took the map 250-138.

Kismet Stays Hot in Search & Destroy

The momentum carried straight into Fringe. Riyadh kept getting opening picks before Paris could get their strategies going.

Kismet again led the way with 10 kills and three first bloods. Cellium went 8/4, and Riyadh's composure in the late rounds kept converting advantages into wins. Sib fought back for Paris with a 10/6 and three first bloods of his own, but every time Paris threatened, Riyadh answered. The Falcons took it 6-4 to move within one map of advancing.

Paris Refuse to Go Home

Facing elimination, Paris finally found their response. Overload on Scar changed the entire tone of the series.

Estreal had maybe his best map of the weekend at 31 kills and 3,669 damage, winning the fights that mattered. Ghosty added 28 kills and steady objective pressure, and JoeDeceives picked up four carrier kills on the pushes that counted. Riyadh still got production from Exnid, who finished with 29 kills, and another solid outing from Kismet, but Paris found the clutch plays this time. They took the map 2-1 to cut the deficit to 2-1.

The Reverse Sweep Almost Happens

Confidence kept building for Paris on Sake. JoeDeceives went 29/22, winning opening engagements all map, and Ghosty added 24 kills with 1 minute 34 seconds of hill time.

Paris built a commanding 200-96 lead and looked headed for an easy fifth map. Then Riyadh clawed back. Kismet and Alluka led the charge, cutting the gap point by point until it read 200-198.

Paris held their nerve down the stretch, winning the final engagements to close the map 250-198 and complete the comeback from two maps down, forcing a decider.

Riyadh Hold On in the Decider

Everything came down to Search & Destroy on Raid. This time Riyadh did not let the moment slip.

Alluka had maybe his best map of the tournament at 11/5, constantly getting opening picks. Exnid went 10/7 with four first bloods, giving Riyadh control early in almost every round. Ghosty kept Paris alive with an 11/8, but the rest of the roster could not consistently cash in on his work.

Riyadh closed it out 6-4 for a 3-2 series win. For Paris, it marked the end of an impressive run, one that came from 0-2 down and nearly completed a reverse sweep. For Riyadh, the dream stayed alive. Having already eliminated Miami Heretics, they had now beaten Paris too, and advanced to face OpTic Texas for the final Grand Final spot.

OpTic Texas Eliminate Riyadh Falcons to Set Up a Grand Final Rematch

After the heartbreak of losing the Winners Final just hours earlier, OpTic had one more obstacle between them and the championship stage: Riyadh Falcons, the tournament's breakout story, fresh off eliminating both Miami Heretics and Paris Gentle Mates.

OpTic showed no signs of fatigue. They controlled the series from start to finish, dropping only the Search & Destroy, and closed it out 3-1 to book a Grand Final rematch with FaZe Vegas.

Map 5 (Search & Destroy, Raid) was not required.

OpTic Set the Tone Early

Knowing there was no room for error, OpTic came out sharp in the opening Hardpoint on Hacienda. Every hold was backed by coordinated slaying, and Riyadh never found room to build momentum.

Huke and Shotzzy both put up 32 kills, constantly breaking Riyadh's setups. Mercules added 28 kills and a team-high 14 objective kills, and Dashy anchored things with steady positioning and timely trades. Kismet had a solid map for Riyadh, but it was not enough to keep pace, and OpTic closed it out 250-153.

Riyadh Answer in Search & Destroy

If the Hardpoint belonged to OpTic, the second map belonged to Riyadh. Cellium had one of his cleanest maps of the tournament, going 10/4 with four first bloods that kept handing Riyadh early numbers advantages. Alluka matched him at 10/5, finding key kills during post-plant situations.

OpTic never settled in. Mercules led the team with just seven eliminations, and Riyadh's defensive setups shut down any rhythm OpTic tried to build. The Falcons took it 6-2 to level the series.

OpTic Regain Control

OpTic responded the way elite teams tend to. Overload on Scar became the turning point.

Shotzzy went off for 29 kills with three successful Overloads and a string of multi-kills that shifted the energy in the arena. Huke complemented him with 27 kills and six carrier kills, breaking through Riyadh's lines before they could reset. Mercules kept up his outstanding weekend with four Overloads and a match-high 5,660 score. Alluka fought hard for Riyadh at 27 kills, but it was not enough to slow OpTic's pace, and the map ended 7-2.

OpTic Close the Door

One map stood between OpTic and a rematch with FaZe. Hardpoint on Gridlock turned into a clinic in disciplined Call of Duty. Rather than chase flashy plays, OpTic focused on clean rotations and trades, wearing Riyadh down until their breaks stopped working.

Huke led with 24 kills, Shotzzy added 21 kills and 1 minute 37 seconds of hill time, and Mercules chipped in 22 kills. Dashy anchored the objective with 2 minutes 12 seconds inside the hill during the map's most important stretches. Riyadh briefly threatened a comeback in the middle, but OpTic shut it down, closing out 250-155 for a 3-1 series win and a second trip to the Grand Final.

Riyadh's Run Comes to an End

The loss ended Riyadh's championship hopes, but it did not take anything away from what they had accomplished. They beat both Miami Heretics and Paris Gentle Mates along the way, proving they belonged with the tournament's best. Kismet was consistent all weekend, and Alluka, Cellium, and Exnid all had standout moments during the run.

For OpTic, there was no time to celebrate. They had earned a second shot at FaZe Vegas, the team that had beaten them just hours earlier.
