OpTic Gaming are the Esports World Cup 2026 Call of Duty Black Ops 7 champions after surviving an eight-map Grand Final against Team Heretics, closing it out 5-3 at the end of one of the most chaotic tournament days the event has produced.

OpTic Gaming, who had swept past FaZe Esports 4-0 in the Quarter-Finals on Day 4 had to go the distance in the Semi-Final and the Final on Championship Sunday.

Nothing about the day was straightforward. OpTic needed seven maps just to get past 100 Thieves in the semifinal. Team Heretics knocked out Team Falcons to reach the Grand Final. Then 100 Thieves, still catching their breath from the semifinal, fell behind Falcons 0-3 in the third-place match before ripping off four straight maps to steal it 4-3. By the time OpTic and Heretics walked out for the final, three separate series had already gone the distance.

The Grand Final matched that energy. OpTic built a 2-0 lead, Heretics clawed back to level it, OpTic pulled ahead again, and Heretics forced an eighth map by winning the seventh from 0-3 down. OpTic finally shut the door on Den Hardpoint to take the championship.

OpTic came into the tournament defending their title, and there is a particular kind of pressure that comes with that. Every loss gets read as a slip. Every close map gets treated as a sign the crown might be slipping. OpTic answered all of it the hard way, by winning the two closest series of the day when it mattered most.

Team Heretics Sweep Team Falcons to Reach the Grand Final

The first semifinal was over almost before it started. Team Heretics swept Team Falcons 4-0 to become the first team through to the Grand Final, and the scoreline undersells how much Falcons actually threw at them.

Heretics opened with a 250-212 win on Den Hardpoint, a map that stayed competitive early before Heretics slowly pulled the hill control their way and kept Falcons out of reach down the stretch. ReeaL led all players with 37 kills for a 1.37 K/D, and SupeR backed him up with 33 kills of his own.

Falcons pushed harder on Fringe Search & Destroy, taking the map all the way to a decider before Heretics closed it out 6-5. MettalZ was the difference, going 12-6 for a 2.00 K/D, though Falcons' KiSMET was arguably the best player on the map with 13 kills, seven deaths, and four first bloods.

Den Overload was tighter still. Heretics won it 3-2 with barely anything separating the two sides, 104 kills to 102 and under 300 damage between them across the whole map. SupeR again stood out with 28 kills at a 1.40 K/D.

Falcons had one more shot to keep the series alive on Sake Hardpoint, and they very nearly took it. Heretics eventually closed the map 250-233 to complete the sweep, with ReeaL finishing 30-25 and MettalZ adding 29 kills. Cellium was Falcons' best performer on the map with 28 kills and a 1.33 K/D, but it wasn't enough.

Team Heretics vs. Team Falcons

There was no late collapse and no need for a fifth map. Heretics just never let Falcons fully into the series, even when three of the four maps were decided by the narrowest of margins. That combination, a clean 4-0 on the scoreboard built almost entirely out of close finishes, made Heretics look composed rather than dominant, which in some ways is a scarier trait heading into a Grand Final.

Falcons were not finished with their day, though. The 0-4 defeat sent them into the third-place match against whichever team lost the second semifinal, with one more chance to leave the tournament on the podium.

OpTic Survive 100 Thieves in a Seven-Map Semifinal

The second semifinal pitted OpTic Gaming against 100 Thieves, and Thieves made their intentions clear immediately.

100 Thieves took Scar Hardpoint 250-129 to open the series, then edged a tight 6-5 win on Den Search & Destroy to move 2-0 up. OpTic looked like they were chasing the game from the opening minutes.

They answered on Gridlock Overload, winning 4-2 to get on the board, then took Den Hardpoint 250-173 to level the series at 2-2. From there OpTic kept the momentum, winning Hacienda Search & Destroy 6-2 to lead for the first time. 100 Thieves refused to fold, forcing a decider with a 3-2 win on Scar Overload, but OpTic closed out Sake Search & Destroy 6-2 to take the semifinal 4-3.

OpTic Gaming vs. 100 Thieves

OpTic had dropped two of the first three maps and still found a way to win four of the next five. That resilience would matter again later in the day.

100 Thieves were not done, though. Their reward for losing the semifinal was a third-place match against a Falcons side coming off its own seven-map war.

100 Thieves Complete a Reverse Sweep of Falcons for Third

If anyone expected the third-place match to be a formality, both teams ignored the memo entirely.

Falcons started fast, taking Scar Hardpoint 250-175 and then dismantling Thieves 6-1 on Den Search & Destroy. A 5-3 win on Den Overload pushed Falcons to a 3-0 lead, putting 100 Thieves on the brink of elimination.

Thieves responded with a 250-103 blowout on Den Hardpoint to get on the scoreboard, then completely shut Falcons down on Gridlock Search & Destroy, winning 6-0. Falcons managed just seven kills on the entire map against 24 for Thieves, with Scrap alone recording eight kills on his own. A 4-1 win on Gridlock Overload tied the series at 3-3, and 100 Thieves completed the comeback with a 6-3 win on Raid Search & Destroy, where HyDra finished 13-4 for a 3.25 K/D and Scrap added 8-7 with three first bloods.

Team Falcons vs. 100 Thieves

Falcons were three maps from locking up third place and finished the day in fourth instead. 100 Thieves, who had just lost a seven-map semifinal a few hours earlier, found enough in the tank to reverse sweep from 0-3 down.

OpTic vs. Heretics: The Grand Final Goes the Distance

With the placement matches settled, the tournament came down to OpTic Gaming against Team Heretics in a best-of-nine Grand Final.

OpTic Race Out to a 2-0 Lead

OpTic started fast, winning Frequency Hardpoint 250-198 behind Mercules, who dropped 33 kills at a 1.57 K/D. They followed it up by demolishing Sake Search & Destroy 6-1, winning the opening duels, going 3-0 in plants, and outkilling Heretics 24-13. Two maps in, OpTic looked firmly in control.

Heretics Level the Series

Heretics finally found their footing on Scar Overload, edging a 6-5 win as ReeaL posted 38 kills and RenKoR added 35. They then tied the series at 2-2 with a 250-241 win on Scar Hardpoint, the closest map of the entire Grand Final. Heretics finished with 130 kills to OpTic's 129 and were actually outdamaged by OpTic 17,096 to 16,967, but they made the plays that mattered in the closing seconds.

OpTic Retake Control

OpTic answered immediately. Raid Search & Destroy went their way 6-1, with Dashy and Mercules both finishing 7-3 and Shotzzy adding a 4-2. That put OpTic ahead 3-2. They pushed the advantage further on Den Overload, winning 6-2 as Shotzzy racked up 31 kills for a 1.55 K/D, moving OpTic to a 4-2 lead and one map away from the title.

Heretics Refuse to Let It End

OpTic raced to a 3-0 lead on Den Search & Destroy, looking ready to close out the championship. Heretics fought back to 3-3, and even after falling behind 4-3, won three straight rounds to take the map 6-4. ReeaL led the way with a 10-6 scoreline for a 1.67 K/D as Heretics forced an eighth map.

OpTic Finally Close the Door

Den Hardpoint opened tight, with both teams even around the 58-point mark, before OpTic found their rhythm and steadily pulled away to win 250-183. Huke led all players with 37 kills at a 1.48 K/D, Dashy matched that K/D with 34 kills, and Shotzzy closed out the series with 30 kills and 23 deaths. OpTic also won the high lead battle 67-22 and the longest hold 32-26, numbers that reflected how completely they took over the map once they found their footing.

Three separate seven-map-or-longer series inside a single tournament day is rare, but that is exactly what the Esports World Cup 2026 Call of Duty bracket produced. Two teams also completed comebacks from 0-3 down, and one of them did it twice in the same day.

Context matters here. 100 Thieves played a seven-map semifinal against OpTic and then, on the same day, had to turn around and play another seven-map series against Falcons with a medal on the line. Falling behind 0-3 in that spot, against a fresh opponent, is exactly the kind of situation where tired legs usually show.
