Nintendo Switch 2's August 2026 Lineup Is Packed With RPG Giants, Soulslikes, and Metal Gear

Nintendo Switch 2 owners are about to be busy. August 2026 brings five genuinely major releases to the console, and between them they cover just about every genre a Switch 2 owner could ask for. There's an MMORPG with a decade of expansions behind it, a soulslike getting its most complete version yet, a beloved open-world RPG in remastered form, a stealth series collection with a cult following of its own, and one of the biggest action RPGs of the last five years arriving in a package nobody else gets. It's a lot to fit into a single month, and it says something about where publishers think the platform is headed.

Final Fantasy XIV finally makes the jump to Nintendo hardware, Elden Ring arrives in a version that isn't available anywhere else, and Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 2 rounds out a month that, on paper, might be the strongest the platform has seen since launch. None of these are small ports either. Each one brings its full slate of expansions, DLC, or bonus content along for the ride, which means storage management is going to be a real consideration for anyone trying to keep up with all five.

Final Fantasy XIV, August 4

Square Enix's long-running MMORPG makes its Switch 2 debut on August 4, and the eShop listing comes with a warning worth reading before you hit download. The install is 117.2GB, which eats up close to half of the console's 256GB of internal storage on day one. That's noticeably larger than the PlayStation 5 version, mostly down to differences in file compression, though it lines up with what PC players already deal with.

The upside is that the download isn't just the base game. It includes all five expansions released so far:

So anyone starting fresh on Switch 2 gets the entire story from the beginning, no separate purchases needed. The version launching on Switch 2 is the full package, not a stripped-down port, and it includes every piece of expansion content the remaster shipped with elsewhere:

Closing out the month, and arguably the biggest release of the five, is Elden Ring: Tarnished Edition on August 28. FromSoftware's genre-defining action RPG comes to Switch 2 in a form that goes beyond what's available on any other platform at launch. The Tarnished Edition includes:
