Sony didn't do one State of Play today. It did two, back to back, one aimed at the usual global audience and a second, State of Play Japan, aimed squarely at the games that don't always travel outside that market. Between them, more than 30 titles got trailers, dates, or updates. That's a lot of runtime to sit through for what amounts to maybe five announcements that will actually shift how you spend the next twelve months on PS5.

So instead of walking through both shows in the order Sony aired them, here's everything sorted by how much it should matter to you, starting with the one date fans have been asking about since the first remake shipped.

Final Fantasy VII Revelation Finally Has a Release Date: April 8, 2027

Square Enix put a number on the calendar. Final Fantasy VII Revelation, the third and closing chapter of the remake trilogy, launches April 8, 2027, exclusively on PS5. That's the headline, and everything else in the segment was built to support it: an extended look at Cloud's party crossing large open environments on Chocobo-back, the Highwind returning as a way to reach new regions, and a new customization layer called FITS sitting on top of the combat system.

Queen's Blood is back too, which shouldn't surprise anyone who watched how much time players sank into it during Rebirth. New traversal tools, including grappling guns, are meant to open up areas that were previously locked off. Pre-orders are live now, with Premium and Premium Plus editions already listed.

None of this changes the story. What it does is close out a seven-year project with an actual date instead of another "coming when it's ready." After two games that both ran long, an April 2027 launch is the first real signal that Square Enix thinks the finish line is in sight.

Jin Sakai Is Back, and Ghost of Yotei Is Getting a Genuinely Big Update

Sucker Punch confirmed that Jin Sakai, protagonist of the original Ghost of Tsushima, will be a playable character in Ghost of Yotei: Most Wanted, a new roguelike combat mode arriving October 1 as part of the game's Complete Edition. Jin comes in with all four of his signature stances intact. Players pick a character, take bounties, and stack perks across runs that touch weapon mastery, gear loadouts, summons, parries, and survivability, so no two runs play quite the same.

There's a currency called Mon for unlocking techniques, upgrades, charms, and extra characters outside individual runs, and any cosmetics earned in Most Wanted carry over into the main game.

Alongside it, Ghost of Yotei: Echoes of Sekigahara got a fresh trailer. The narrative expansion moves between Atsu's present and her past during the Battle of Sekigahara, introduces a figure from her history named Nagato, and opens up a previously unseen valley tied to the Snake and the Vipers. It launches the same day as Most Wanted.

Existing Ghost of Yotei owners can grab the Complete Edition Upgrade for $14.99 to get both. There's also a free update landing October 1 for everyone: a Photo Mode-focused exploration mode called Beauty of Yotei, new Watanabe Mode tracks, the option to keep one armor set's look while running another's stats, and a new high-contrast accessibility option. Coming up on its first anniversary, this is one of the more substantial content drops a Sony first-party game has gotten this late in its lifecycle.

Metro 2039 Shows Off PS5 Pro Gameplay Ahead of a February Launch

4A Games locked in February 4, 2027 for Metro 2039 and paired it with the first console gameplay footage, captured on PlayStation 5 Pro. The new lead, a former Spartan called The Stranger, crosses a ruined surface-level Moscow hunting for a Novoreich fortress buried near a dam. Radiation management and equipment scarcity are still core to the loop, and the footage showed off the Shatun rifle and Duplet shotgun alongside Molotovs.

The bigger technical note: 4A confirmed ray tracing at 60fps on both PS5 and PS5 Pro through the game's Performance Mode. That's a meaningful claim for a series that's historically leaned hard on atmosphere over frame rate, and it's the kind of thing that will get tested the second review code goes out. Wishlisting is open now, with pre-orders opening later this year, and the game arrives a day later, February 5, in parts of Asia, Australia, and New Zealand.

Marvel's Wolverine Gets Its Launch Trailer, Three Weeks Out

Insomniac dropped the launch trailer for Marvel's Wolverine, its first standalone project since the Spider-Man series, ahead of a September 15, 2026 release. Logan shares the frame with Jean Grey and members of Team X, and the footage teases some of what he's up against without spelling it out. Earlier gameplay reveals already covered the claws-and-regeneration combat loop and a story that moves through Madripoor, Canada, and Japan, so today's segment was really just the countdown clock ticking down in public.

Monster Hunter Wilds Gets Its First Expansion Look

Capcom pulled back the curtain on Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance, landing on PS5 in 2027 and continuing the Expedition Team's story past the base game. The expansion adds a new region, Skybound Eyrie, new hunting mechanics, and a new Elder Dragon called Gundoraja roaming the expanded Forbidden Lands.

Anyone attending Tokyo Game Show 2026 will get hands-on time with a demo built around a hunt against another newly revealed monster, Arakeeta. State of Play Japan filled in more detail on the new systems and the Skybound Eyrie region specifically, which tracks given how much of Wilds' audience sits in that market.

Until Dawn 2 Sets a January 2027 Date

Firesprite confirmed January 28, 2027 for Until Dawn 2. The new cast, a group of ghost-hunting YouTubers called Dead True, heads to Akishima Island after a survivor connects them to a supernatural attack, with a stop at Blackwood Sanatorium along the way. Choices still shape relationships, events, and who makes it out, the same branching structure the original built its reputation on.

Firesprite is working with AdHoc Studio, the team behind Dispatch, on the story side. Pre-orders open September 10, and the Standard and Digital Deluxe editions come with Dr. Hill-themed bonuses, including a classic outfit, an Akishima Island holiday outfit, and collector's bobbleheads. Digital Deluxe also adds a Y2K Neon Vibes costume pack for all eight Dead True members and a Diorama of Death collection built around the game's different fatal outcomes.

Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3 Returns With More of Its New Setting

Bandai Namco used State of Play Japan to show more of Dragon Ball Xenoverse 3, first announced earlier this year. It's set during Age 1000 in a new Dragon Ball universe, with West City as a hub and a custom hero joining the Great Saiyan Squad. Players can build their own fighting style and mix custom and familiar characters into their roster. Bandai Namco confirmed PS5, 2027, alongside more combat and customization footage, but there's no firm date yet.

Final Fantasy Resonance Drops a Playable Demo Today, With Sephiroth Confirmed

Square Enix set Final Fantasy Resonance for October 22, 2026 and released a free demo covering the entire first chapter today, save data included when the full game launches. The trailer confirmed Sephiroth as a findable, challengeable encounter with a reward tied to beating him, which is the kind of crossover cameo that'll get datamined and screenshotted within hours.

The game runs on an HD-2D presentation and folds in the usual Final Fantasy touchstones, Chocobos, airships, a job system, on top of a modernized turn-based battle system built around an action timeline, a stagger mechanic, and Vision abilities learned from characters met along the way.

Gran Turismo 7 Spec IV Splits Its Update Across October and December

Polyphony Digital is rolling out Spec IV for Gran Turismo 7 in two parts ahead of the original game's 30th anniversary in 2027. October brings the Sportsland SUGO circuit; December brings back Autumn Ring from the first Gran Turismo. Twelve new cars are confirmed but not yet named.

New competitive modes include Online Drift Trials and Shuffle Races, and the update also touches Driving Experiences, the Car Viewer, progression systems, and a Concierge feature for buying cars. December adds Family Mode for mixed skill-level play. More on both halves comes at Gran Turismo World Series Round 3 in Singapore on October 3.

Maneater 2 Trades the Gulf Coast for a Luxury Theme Park

Tripwire Interactive officially unveiled Maneater 2 for PS5 in 2027. This time it's a bull shark loose in Neptune's Kingdom, an invite-only island theme park built around Vegas-style excess. The loop is the same as before, eat, explore, evolve, but the setting swap gives it a very different backdrop to wreck. Tripwire and Demiurge Studios say more is coming ahead of launch.

Gundam Rogue Orbit Confirms March 5, 2027

Bandai Namco locked Gundam Rogue Orbit to March 5, 2027 on PS5, with the new trailer focused on mobile suit customization inside large-scale battles. State of Play Japan carried additional combat and customization detail.

Crimson Desert's First Expansion Gets a Name

Pearl Abyss showed off Charting the Unknown, the first expansion for Crimson Desert, running on PS5 Pro in the footage shown. Crimson Desert itself still launches October 15, 2026; expansion details are coming closer to its own release.

Saros Adds a Free Boss Rush and New Game Plus Mode

Housemarque announced the Zenith Update for Saros, arriving later this year at no cost. It adds Overlord Rush, a leaderboard-driven boss rush against the campaign's roster, and Eclipse Layers, a New Game Plus mode with new modifiers and secrets. A slow-down accessibility option is also part of the package.

New IP: Rhapsody in Scarlet, Where the Seeds Fall, WPCA, and More

Both shows introduced a handful of new projects. Rhapsody in Scarlet is a Konami action game set in 1920s New York, following a young magus named Ellie who's chasing a jazz singing career while getting pulled into a conflict involving magic and beasts. Where the Seeds Fall, from Cygames' new experimental label CygamesEdge, launches November 5, 2026, following a soldier and a Fell Child descending the World Tree into a Blight-affected surface.

WPCA (World Phasebound Control Authority) is a Seoul-set action RPG coming to PS5 in 2028, casting players as a Containment Agent working supernatural containment zones. Uncanyon is a puzzle adventure built around parallel realities, and Daba: Land of Water Scar is a new PS5 action game out of the China Hero Project. The Eminence in Shadow: Phantom Echoes also showed up as the franchise's first console game, due on PS5 in 2027.

Pre-orders open September 10 at 10:00 a.m. local time in supported regions, and the controllers use standard DualSense haptics and adaptive triggers once the game is out.

A 1,911-Piece LEGO Set Recreates the Original PlayStation

Sony and LEGO are putting out a LEGO PlayStation set built around the original 1994 console, recreating it and its controller at close to 1:1 scale. The finished build measures roughly 10.5 inches (26cm) wide and includes small dioramas referencing Ape Escape and Gran Turismo, plus assorted hidden nods to PlayStation history. It launches October 1, 2026.

PlayStation Plus Adds Mycopunk and a Handful of Classics
