Day 2 of the Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 tournament at Esports World Cup 2026 did what Day 1 could not. It handed out actual playoff spots. The upper bracket semifinals closed out and the lower bracket quarterfinals ran their course, and by the time the lights came down, FaZe Clan, G2 Esports, 100 Thieves and Team Falcons had all clinched berths in the next round. Four other teams were not so lucky.
Where Day 1 was mostly one-sided, sweep after sweep with only OpTic Gaming needing a fourth map, Day 2 swung the other way. Three of the eight series went the distance or came close to it, and the lower bracket in particular produced a genuine classic. The race for the remaining playoff places is still wide open heading into tomorrow, but the picture at the top of the bracket is starting to come into focus.

FaZe Clan Outlast Movistar KOI to Qualify From Group A
FaZe Clan became the first team out of Group A to lock in a playoff spot, beating Movistar KOI 3-1 in a series that had no business being as tight as it was on paper.
KOI came in fresh off a 3-0 sweep of Carolina Royal Ravens on Day 1 and looked ready to keep the momentum going. FaZe opened with a 250-236 Hardpoint win on Gridlock, a scoreline close enough that KOI could have taken it either way. They answered immediately, running away with Search and Destroy on Sake 6-4 to square the series at one map apiece.
Map 3 is where this one turned. Both teams traded holds on Gridlock Overload all the way to a 2-2 regulation draw, forcing sudden death. KOI set the mark first on the overtime attack, putting the pressure squarely on FaZe's defense. FaZe answered with a faster clear on their own attacking round to steal the map 3-3 in sudden death, a result that on any other day might have been the story of the series by itself. Instead it was just the setup. FaZe closed things out on Sake Hardpoint, winning 250-205 behind another clean objective performance, and moved on to the playoffs while KOI dropped into a lower bracket rematch against Cloud9.
G2 Esports Sweep Gentle Mates
If FaZe's series was a grind, G2's was the opposite. G2 Esports needed only three maps to secure their playoff spot, sweeping Gentle Mates 3-0 without much drama at any point.
G2 opened on Scar Hardpoint and never let Gentle Mates into it, closing the map 250-201. Gridlock Search and Destroy went much the same way, a 6-3 win that gave G2 full control of the series with a map to spare. Gentle Mates put up more of a fight on Gridlock Overload, the closest map of the three, but G2 held on for a 4-2 finish to complete the sweep. Gentle Mates avoided elimination and drop into the lower bracket, where they will face The Pit in a series both teams need to win to stay alive.
The Pit Survive Carolina Royal Ravens Comeback
The best series of the day, and it was not particularly close in terms of drama, came out of Group A's lower bracket, where The Pit needed everything they had to hold off Carolina Royal Ravens.
The Pit looked to be cruising early. They took Scar Hardpoint 250-230 and then dominated Raid Search and Destroy 6-2, building a 2-0 lead that most teams do not surrender. Carolina Royal Ravens had other plans. They clawed back a 5-3 win on Scar Overload, then took Frequency Hardpoint 250-203 to level the series at two maps apiece, completing the comeback from a two-map hole and forcing a decider that nobody on The Pit's side wanted to see.
With elimination on the line for both sides, The Pit regrouped on Gridlock Search and Destroy and closed it out 6-4, taking the series 3-2 and sending Carolina Royal Ravens out of the tournament. It is the kind of series that will not show up prominently in any highlight reel outside the Call of Duty community, but for two teams fighting to survive, it was as high-stakes as anything played at the venue on Day 2.
Cloud9 Eliminate OMiT
Cloud9 kept their tournament alive in the Group A lower bracket, beating OMiT 3-1 to advance and set up a rematch with Movistar KOI in the lower bracket semifinals.
Cloud9 set the tone early, taking Sake Hardpoint 250-162 in a map that was rarely competitive, then following it up with a comfortable 6-2 win on Raid Search and Destroy. OMiT clawed back some momentum with a 3-1 win on Den Overload, their only map of the series, but Cloud9 shut the door immediately after, closing out Gridlock Hardpoint 250-228 to finish the series and send OMiT home. Cloud9 now turns its attention to KOI, a team it will have already studied closely given how far KOI just pushed FaZe Clan.
100 Thieves Edge OpTic Gaming in Five-Map Thriller
Group B saved its best for last on Day 2, and arguably for the whole tournament so far, as 100 Thieves outlasted defending champions OpTic Gaming 3-2 in a series that went the full distance.
100 Thieves struck first, taking Frequency Hardpoint 250-227. OpTic answered emphatically, winning Den Search and Destroy 6-3 to even things up, and then carried that momentum into Map 3, edging Scar Overload 4-3 to move ahead in the series for the first time. Facing elimination, 100 Thieves did not blink. They responded with a composed 250-239 win on Den Hardpoint to force a decider, then delivered on Gridlock Search and Destroy, taking the map 6-3 to close out the series and eliminate the reigning champions from the upper bracket.
OpTic is not out of the tournament, but their path to another title just became considerably tougher. They drop into the lower bracket, where they will face Project Notorious in a straight elimination series. Given how hard Team WaR pushed OpTic on Day 1 and how this series just went, nothing about OpTic's path back to the playoffs looks easy from here.
Team WaR Eliminate Boston Breach
Team WaR kept up their strong lower bracket run, sweeping Boston Breach 3-0 to advance. WaR opened with a 250-172 win on Den Hardpoint, then took full control of Fringe Search and Destroy, winning it 6-2. Boston pushed WaR to the wire on the final map, but WaR held on for a 5-4 win on Den Overload to close out the sweep and end Boston Breach's tournament. It is WaR's second win in as many days after taking a map off OpTic Gaming on Day 1, and they now look like one of the more dangerous teams left in the lower bracket.
Project Notorious End Vancouver Surge's Run
Project Notorious needed four maps to finish off Vancouver Surge, winning 3-1 after briefly losing their grip on the series in Map 3.
Notorious opened in dominant fashion, winning Sake Hardpoint 250-94, about as lopsided a Hardpoint score as the tournament has produced so far. They followed it up with a 6-2 win on Den Search and Destroy to build a commanding 2-0 lead. Vancouver Surge avoided the sweep by winning Gridlock Overload 3-1, but Project Notorious shut down any hope of a reverse sweep immediately, closing out Den Hardpoint 250-216 to finish the series. Vancouver Surge's tournament ends here, while Project Notorious moves on to face OpTic Gaming in the lower bracket semifinals, a matchup that suddenly looks far more competitive than it would have looked twenty-four hours ago.
Team Falcons Join the Playoff Field
The final series of the night went to Team Falcons, who beat Team Heretics 3-1 to claim the fourth and final playoff spot confirmed on Day 2.
Falcons opened strongly, taking Scar Hardpoint 250-202. Heretics answered in convincing fashion, winning Fringe Search and Destroy 6-2 to level the series. Map 3 turned into another nail-biter, with Falcons edging Den Overload 4-3 to reclaim the series lead, before closing things out with a 250-200 win on Den Hardpoint. The win sends Team Falcons straight into the playoffs, while Team Heretics drop into the lower bracket to face Team WaR, who have looked increasingly dangerous since dropping into the lower bracket.

Every remaining match from here is win or go home. That is the blunt reality of a lower bracket semifinal round, and it shapes all four matchups nicely. Gentle Mates against The Pit is a rematch of styles more than anything, a clean, disciplined roster against a team that has already proven it can claw back from a two-map deficit once this tournament. Movistar KOI against Cloud9 pits two teams that pushed their previous opponents further than expected, KOI taking FaZe to overtime on Map 3 and Cloud9 needing four maps to finish OMiT.
Group B's pairings carry even more weight. Team Heretics against Team WaR is a genuine test for WaR, who have looked sharp through two rounds but have not yet faced a team of Heretics' caliber. And then there is OpTic Gaming against Project Notorious, the marquee matchup of the round. OpTic came into this tournament as defending champions and the team every other roster circled on the schedule. After Day 2, they are one loss away from an early exit, and Project Notorious, fresh off finishing off Vancouver Surge, is the team standing in their way.
