Stage 3 of IEM Cologne Major 2026 is over. After five days at the Palladium, the bracket is locked, the eight teams are confirmed, and the Lanxess Arena is waiting. NAVI will not be in it. That is the headline from the final two days, and it is a big one.
When we last checked in after Day 3, Spirit and FURIA had already booked their playoff spots. Vitality, Falcons, Aurora, and NAVI were sitting at 2-1 with one win needed. Six teams were clinging on at 1-2 with their backs to the wall. Here is everything that happened next.
Day 4: Falcons, Aurora, and Vitality Through. NAVI Stumble Again.
Day 4 had six matches and produced three more playoff qualifiers. It also produced what is probably the result of the stage: Falcons over NAVI in a Anubis decider that went to double overtime.
Falcons Beat NAVI in Double OT to Qualify
Falcons picked Dust2 and won it 13-3. NAVI responded with a 13-7 Mirage. The decider was Anubis, and it ran all the way to 19-16 in Falcons' favour after two overtime periods. TeSeS was the player of the match with 31 kills. NiKo's playoff spot is alive. NAVI's is not, at least not through the 2-1 bracket.
It was not the upset of the stage, but it was a reminder that NAVI's run has been bumpy. They lost to Spirit in round one, needed three maps to beat The MongolZ, and then could not close out Anubis against a Falcons side that simply refused to drop. They would still have one more chance on Day 5.
Aurora Sweep 9z to Qualify
Aurora's match against 9z was as clean as it gets. 9z picked Nuke and lost it 1-13. Dust2 went 5-13. soufly finished with a 1.67 rating and 98.2 ADR across the series and was named Player of the Match.
That scoreline needs some context. 9z had been the story of Stage 3 up to that point. They swept PARIVISION in round one, beat Vitality in round two, then took Spirit to the wire in a three-map series they nearly won. Going from that to losing two maps by a combined score of 6-26 against Aurora was a rough landing. Aurora, for their part, have now beaten Monte, G2, and 9z in sequence. They are not a team to ignore going into the Lanxess.
Vitality Get Past BetBoom to Qualify
BetBoom's run through Stage 3 had been one of the better stories. They swept The MongolZ and upset Falcons in the first two rounds before consecutive losses to FURIA and Vitality ended their qualification push. Against Vitality on Day 4 they pushed again, but Vitality closed it out 2-0 and reached the playoffs with a 3-1 record.
Vitality looked steadier here than in earlier matches. The MOUZ series on Day 3 was three maps and uncomfortable. This was two maps and controlled. Whether that signals something or whether BetBoom just had a rough day is hard to say, but Vitality going into the playoffs having beaten FUT, MOUZ, and BetBoom with only the 9z loss on their record is not a bad position to be in.
Day 4 Lower Bracket: Three Eliminated, Three Survive
The 1-2 bracket on Day 4 cleaned up three more spots. MOUZ lost to FUT and went home. Monte lost to The MongolZ and went home. Legacy lost to G2 and went home.
MOUZ going out before the playoffs is hard to square with their preseason ranking. They beat Legacy in round one, then lost three straight to FUT, Aurora, and FUT again. FUT beating them twice in the same stage is a result that will come up the next time MOUZ is discussed. For a team that was considered a playoff lock by most people, exiting at 1-3 in Stage 3 is a rough outcome.
G2 beat Legacy 2-0 to survive into the 2-2 bracket. NiKo and m0NESY had a quiet Day 1 and Day 2, but G2 started finding their footing against Monte and Legacy and now head into Day 5 with another chance. The MongolZ did the same, beating Monte to survive.
After Day 4: Falcons, Aurora, and Vitality join Spirit and FURIA in the playoffs. NAVI, G2, The MongolZ, BetBoom, 9z, and FUT all move to 2-2, heading into a win-or-go-home Day 5.
Day 5: The Final Three Spots. G2 End NAVI's Major.
Three matches on Day 5. Three playoff spots left. Every team at 2-2. The Swiss is down to its last decision.
9z Beat The MongolZ 2-0
9z had looked finished after Aurora swept them. They came back on Day 5 and took down The MongolZ 2-0, with the second half of both Inferno and Overpass going decisively their way after tight opening halves. luchov, who has been the best player on the roster throughout this stage with a 1.15 rating across the Major, led again. The MongolZ are eliminated. 9z are heading to the Lanxess.
It is worth sitting with what 9z have done here. They beat Vitality in round two. They took Spirit to 16-14 on the Dust2 decider. They got swept by Aurora and looked dead. Then they won the match that mattered most. That is a good Major run by any measure.
BetBoom Beat FUT 2-0
BetBoom's tournament has had a strange shape. They swept The MongolZ and beat Falcons in the first two rounds, then lost to FURIA and Vitality before needing to go through FUT on Day 5 to survive. They did it cleanly. FUT, who had already knocked out B8 and MOUZ, exit at 2-3. BetBoom are through.
FUT's exit stings a little. They beat MOUZ twice in this stage, which is genuinely impressive regardless of how MOUZ looked. A different draw on Day 5 and they might have made it. BetBoom were just the wrong team to face on a day when nothing was forgiven.
G2 Eliminate NAVI
This was the match of Day 5 and arguably the result of the whole stage. NAVI, the IEM Atlanta champions, went from losing to Spirit in round one to needing a 2-2 survival match against G2. They lost it. G2 are through to the playoffs. NAVI go home.
The details of the series are worth knowing. G2 outplayed NAVI throughout. It was not a close match in the way the Falcons-NAVI Anubis overtime was close. G2 controlled the pace, and NAVI could not find enough individual moments to compensate. Karrigan, who has had a quiet tournament by his usual standards, has now qualified for the Cologne playoffs. The thread on HLTV following the match had 74 replies inside the first hour.
NAVI's tournament ends at 2-3 in Stage 3. They beat The MongolZ in round three. That is the only series they won after losing to Spirit in round one. The Atlanta champions are not going to Lanxess. That is going to be a talking point for a while.
G2 go through. NAVI go home. The Cologne Major bracket has no NAVI in it for the first time since 2022.

QF1: Aurora vs BetBoom, June 18, 15:45 CEST
Aurora finished Stage 3 with a 3-1 record, beating Monte, G2, and 9z in sequence. BetBoom finished 3-2 after a turbulent five days where they beat Falcons, lost to FURIA and Vitality, then recovered to beat FUT on the final day. Aurora are the favourites here and have been the more consistent team across the stage. BetBoom are dangerous in the sense that they beat Falcons and had FURIA working for it, but Aurora on current form look like they handle this.
QF2: 9z vs FURIA, June 18, 19:00 CEST
9z vs FURIA is the South American derby that nobody had pencilled in before this tournament started. FURIA went 3-0 through Stage 3 and YEKINDAR has been in the best form he has shown in 2026. 9z are unpredictable in the most interesting way. They beat Vitality. They nearly beat Spirit. They lost to Aurora 1-26 on combined map score. You cannot model them with any confidence.
FalleN has said publicly that Cologne is one of his final two Majors. Facing a Brazilian team in what may be one of his last deep tournament runs is either a great story or a brutal one, depending on the outcome. Either way it is the most watchable quarterfinal on the schedule.
QF3: Spirit vs G2, June 19, 15:45 CEST
Spirit have not dropped a series since arriving at this tournament. In round one they held NAVI to a single round on Dust2. In round three they beat 9z 16-14 on the Dust2 decider with donk going 30 frags. G2 qualified through the 2-2 bracket and had a messy early stage before finding form against Monte and Legacy. This is Spirit's match to lose. donk against m0NESY is the individual storyline that gets the most attention, and for good reason, but the team gap between Spirit as a unit and G2 right now is real.
QF4: Falcons vs Vitality, June 19, 19:00 CEST
The headliner. Falcons beat NAVI in double overtime on Day 4 to qualify. Vitality had the 9z stumble in round two but have otherwise won every series they played. NiKo against ZywOo, karrigan against apEX, the roster history between these two organisations, all of it lands in one Bo3 at the Lanxess Arena. This is the match that the bracket produced, and it earned it.
Vitality are the defending champions going for a three-peat. Falcons have NiKo, who has never won a Major despite being one of the best players in Counter-Strike history. The stakes for both sides are as clear as they get.
What to Watch For at the Lanxess
Spirit are the bracket favourite and have been all tournament. No dropped series across three stages is a real accomplishment, and donk has been the best player at the event whenever the games have mattered. The question is not whether they are good, it is whether the bracket will eventually produce a match that actually tests them.
FURIA's run is the emotional story. If they get through 9z and reach the semifinals, the question of whether FalleN can win Cologne for the third time becomes the only narrative left. He told HLTV it would be "a cherry on top." That interview will be replayed a lot this week.
NAVI's absence is worth acknowledging once more. This is the first Cologne Major without them in the playoffs since 2022. Aleksib, iM, b1t, w0nderful, makazze. That group exits Stage 3 with a 2-3 record. It is not what the seedings suggested was possible and the off-season conversation around that roster is going to be loud once the tournament wraps up.
G2 qualifying through the 2-2 bracket means they have had to win every match since losing to Falcons on Day 3. Back-to-back victories over Monte and Legacy got them there. Now they face Spirit. It is a steep draw, but G2 have been in worse spots at big events and found ways through.
