Tekken 8's Bob Gets a Confirmed Release Date, and a Skateboard

Bandai Namco picked an odd moment to drop new Tekken 8 footage: two minutes before strangers started kicking each other for a Vegas crowd. Somehow it worked anyway.

The full Bob gameplay trailer went live on Tekken's official channels right before the character's Top 8 bracket at Evo 2026 on Sunday, locking in his return for Season 3. It also handed the FGC its new favorite screenshot: Bob riding into a fight on a skateboard.

What's Actually New About Bob

Long-time players already know what Bob does. He hits like a heavyweight and moves like he's twenty pounds lighter. That contradiction has been his whole identity since he debuted in Tekken 6 back in 2007. The Season 3 version keeps the signature flips, the belly bump power crush, and the Spinner Ball special. It also bolts on the Heat system every returning character gets this season.

The actual new piece is the skateboard. Bob rolls in on one during his pre-match intro against Kazuya. In that same intro, Kazuya throws a punch that bounces clean off Bob's stomach. That's the new mechanic: certain hits now just deflect off Bob's hurtbox, leaving whoever threw the punch wide open for a counter. Nobody at Evo actually saw the board show up mid-combo, so whether it's purely cosmetic or has some hidden use is still an open question.

There's also a new look. Bob's running an onigiri-salesman gimmick this season, which is a strange choice on paper but weirdly on-brand for a character whose entire backstory is "rich guy who got fat on purpose because it makes him fight better."

Okay, So When Does He Actually Release?

Here's where it gets messy. The trailer confirmed a date. Multiple outlets reported it within hours of each other. They don't agree.

FullCleared has Bob landing on August 19. mxdwn Games has him at August 24. Both pieces published the same day, both cite the same Evo trailer as their source, and as of this writing neither Bandai Namco's Tekken social account nor the in-game store listing has put up a single date that settles it cleanly.

This isn't a huge deal in the long run. Someone will post a screenshot of the real store listing within a day or two and the correct date will win out. But it's a decent reminder that "confirmed at a live event" doesn't always mean "confirmed clearly." Captions get transcribed fast under deadline, trailers move faster, and a five-day gap between two respected outlets is exactly the kind of detail that gets copy-pasted into a dozen other roundups before anyone double-checks.

Roger Jr Gets a Tease, Not a Reveal

The trailer closes with a quick look at Roger Jr, the boxing kangaroo joining later in Season 3. He doesn't get an actual reveal here. Bandai Namco is saving that for Evo France in October, which says something about how the publisher is treating its regional Evo events now: less like side shows, more like the actual release calendar.

Why a DLC Trailer Is Worth Caring About

Most of the time, "DLC character gets a trailer" isn't news. The timing here is what makes it worth a second look. Tekken 8's Season 2 was rough, the balance complaints were loud and constant for months, and the dev team spent the first half of 2026 quietly patching its way back into the community's good graces.

Putting Bob's reveal directly in front of the Top 8 bracket, on the same day Arslan Ash beat Rangchu to claim his eighth Evo title and a spot at the TWT Finals, is a deliberate flex. It says the developers are confident enough in where the game stands right now to hand new content the biggest stage they have.

Whether Bob is actually any good in the current meta is a separate question. Ask again once the date is locked and people get their hands on him.
